Heidecksburg

Baroque castle above the town

Perched high above the old town, the Heidecksburg is the baroque residence of the former Princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Rococo state rooms, the Thuringian State Museum and the famous "Rococo en miniature" miniature world invite you to explore, while the castle hill offers stunning views over the Saale valley. (Note: parts of the castle are undergoing restoration until around 2030.)

Rudolstadt Festival

World & folk music, first weekend of July

Once a year, on the first weekend of July, Rudolstadt turns into a world stage for four days: the Rudolstadt Festival is Germany's largest festival for roots, folk and world music. Around 300 events on almost 30 stages across the town bring artists from about 40 countries together — a real celebration, right outside your door.

Saale riverbank

Walking and cycling paths along the river

Just a few steps from the house, the Saale riverbank invites you to take a deep breath: quiet walking and cycling paths along the water, fresh air and views of the surrounding countryside. Perfect for a morning run or an evening stroll after a day in town.

Rudolstadt's old town charms visitors with half-timbered houses, winding lanes and a historic market square — crowned by the Heidecksburg. Cafés, small shops and a lively atmosphere invite you to stroll around.

Falconry at Greifenstein Castle

Flight shows · Bad Blankenburg (~20 min)

About 20 minutes away, high above Bad Blankenburg, the Falconry at Greifenstein Castle presents impressive daily flight shows: eagles, vultures, buzzards, falcons and owls up close against a medieval castle backdrop. An experience for young and old — and at the same time a sanctuary for injured birds of prey.

SAALEMAXX

Experience pool with slide tower and sauna

For rainy days or family fun, SAALEMAXX in Rudolstadt is the go-to address: Thuringia's large leisure pool with a slide tower, wave pool and a generous toddler area, plus a sauna and wellness world. The outdoor area even offers a fine view of the Heidecksburg.
